When your landlord asks for ID on LINE
Scheduled2 min read By NT²
The landlord did not email a form. They sent a LINE sticker and one line: front and back of your ID, please.
LINE is the lease office
You found a place in Taipei—or Osaka, or any city where LINE is how landlords, agents, and roommates coordinate.
No portal. No PDF upload link. Just:
請傳身分證正反面
You open Photos. You send both sides in the chat. Done.
Except LINE is not a document system:
- The images stay in the thread until someone deletes them—and you cannot control the other phone.
- Family groups and roommate groups sit one mis-tap away from the wrong audience.
- Cloud backup on both devices may keep copies you never agreed to.
- Six months later, the same photos are still there when a new agent asks again.
Ana’s story on nt2.me/help/use-cases names this habit globally—WhatsApp, Telegram, LINE. In East Asia, LINE is often the default wrong place. The fix is the same: structure + encrypted handoff, not another camera-roll send.
The chat is not your vault
| Moment | LINE / album path | Structured vault path |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery | Full-resolution ID in a chat log | Document item with encrypted attachments |
| Wrong audience | Forward to a group by accident | Item stays in one encrypted place |
| In-person | Hand over unlocked phone | Safe presentation — issuer + partial number, masked |
| Retention | Chat history is the archive | Encrypted link with expiry, or vault-to-vault share you accept or decline |
| Next landlord | Re-send the same oversharing photos | Same item—share or present only what the moment needs |
You needed proof of identity—not a permanent scan sleeping in a sticker chat.
How NT² is designed for this
NT² Vault stores ID scans as Document items: issuer, number, expiry in fields; front and back as encrypted attachments on your device.
- Store — One Document entry; unlock offline at the viewing appointment.
- Share —
.nt2share, encrypted link, or vault-to-vault send—not a LINE album dump. Share passphrase is separate from your master password. - Present — Meet the agent in person? Show masked fields on your screen; nothing uploaded to their server.
We wrote the global version of this story in When your landlord asks for ID on WhatsApp. This is the locale-first telling: the messenger is LINE, the mistake is familiar, the alternative is structured.
Pre-launch honesty
NT² Vault is in active development and not open to the public yet. This article describes design intent, not a tutorial you can run today.
Lease season will not wait for our launch calendar. Knowing the shape—Document item, encrypted handoff, no default LINE photo ritual—helps when the next sticker arrives with “正反面.”

When NT² launches at se.nt2.me, renting in LINE-first cities should not mean another set of ID photos in a chat you cannot unsend.
